Product Sustainability
Chelsea Approved is focused on creating a sustainable product and supply chain, from the ingredients to the packaging.
Here at Chelsea Approved, we consider the impact we make in the manufacturing and delivery of our products. Before starting, we committed to creating the shortest possible supply chain for our manufacturing and to always use biodegradable packaging. We are proud of our supply chain and look forward to making mindful decisions for a better planet as we grow!
Ingredients
It all starts with the ingredients! When it comes to agricultural practices, not all foods are created equal. Some crops require more water, while others pull nutrients from the soil without giving anything back. That’s why we chose our main ingredient so carefully for our Chelsea Approved products.
All Chelsea Approved baking mixes start with Buckwheat Flour. Buckwheat grows fast and acts as a great “green manure,” adding nutrients back into the soil when it breaks down. Buckwheat is a low water, low fertilizer crop that grows easily across the US and Canada!
Near Sourcing
In addition to being committed to creating products that are made in the USA, Chelsea Approved is committed to minimizing our resource consumption by establishing the shortest supply chain possible. We chose our buckwheat supplier, blending site, and packaging partner because of their close proximity to one another to decrease the need for long distance freight. Our blending site is central to our supply chain, with our buckwheat milled less than 40 miles away, and our packaging formed and printed only 120 miles away.

Biodegradable Packaging
The Chelsea Approved team is delivering our products to you with the best packaging for a modern consumer packaged goods (CPG) company. Our partner manufactures our stand up pouches with biodegradable films, proven to biodegrade through Independent Lab tests, as per FTC requirements. They are FDA approved food safe, shelf stable, and are used around the world. We are investing in this material for our products to outcompete landfill plastics and improve the whole industry.
The film is plastic-based with an organic additive that is incorporated into the film during manufacturing. This additive reacts with microbes to create an enzyme that breaks the long-chain molecules down so that microbes can completely consume the packaging. After eating the packaging they leave behind only water, carbon dioxide, and organic biomass. Importantly, your kitchen and our warehouses do not have the microbes that start this biodegradation, therefore you can be confident in Chelsea Approved long shelf life stability.
